The first thing he can think of - the first word that comes to mind - is warm, and wonderful, and, oh, he never wants to leave this.
He hears a bang and a blast of air chills his fevered skin.
“I’ve got your clothes in the wash. Don’t be a twat and use up all my hot water,” she says, her voice echoing off the slick tiles and he thinks for a moment about what she would look like pressed against him the shower wall, eyes closed lips quivering -
“I won’t,” he calls to her, following it with a belated “Thank you” for washing the rags he’s been wearing the past few months. When she doesn’t respond he knows she’s somewhere else, puttering in the kitchen or bedroom, looking for a distraction.
The fruity scent of her shampoo fills his nostrils and he can taste Stones lyrics you can’t always get what you want but if you try sometimes on his tongue. He thinks about temptation and the process of fighting then succumbing to it, and where the line between what you want and what you need is drawn in light of that struggle.
The warm water rushes down his back and he thinks (not for the first time) that it's sad how good he is at giving up what he really wants.
