Summary: Remus watches Tonks get ready for a romantic night out

He watches as she lowers herself gently to the bench in front of her vanity. She seems to move with more grace this evening than he’s ever known her to have. She seems to glide with happiness. She knows tonight holds something big. He asked her to wear her best dress, because tonight he will tell her he wants to marry her, and hopes she will accept his offer.

He sits on the bed, fascinated with unblinking eyes as she runs her favorite wooden brush though her hair. Tonight it is baby pink and falling past her shoulders in soft waves. Then she coats her fully pouting lips with a sweet watermelon gloss that she knows he loves. Next she traces her eyes in a smoky colored liner after sharpening the pencil to a fine point. She’s almost most done now. All that’s left is to fasten on a pair of sapphire earrings that she only wears with her best dress.

“You look beautiful.” He says and she just smiles

He loves watching her get ready. Loves it so much in fact he does it every night in his sleep. He wakes in his bed and for a moment before he realizes she is not beside him, he’s truly happy. He forgets sometimes when he has that dream that , that is all it is. A dream.

When it hits him it’s hard, like a stunning spell to the stomach. He rises from the med and walks to the vanity. The tube of lip gloss that she left open is now empty, its contents having dries up. The smoky liner remains freshly sharpened. The wooden brush still filled with strands of long, light pink hair. And an open jewelry box missing a delicate and beautiful pair of sapphire earrings.

He hasn’t touched a thing since that last time she sat at that vanity. Since the last time she wore her best dress. Since the night he told her he wanted to marry her and she accepted. Since the night they exited the café and walked straight into an awaiting Death-Eater. Since the night she said good-bye with her last breath.
