tow tow tow your car, gently down the street

Mar 26, 2007 22:13

I didn't post about this, but when I came back from the Caribbean, my car wouldn't start. vrr, vrr, no start. I was lazy about getting it towed to the repair place (who wants to set aside time to wait for the tow truck and walk/bike home afterwards when they could just lounge around sleeping or watching TV?).

Tonight I finally called AAA, after I couldn't take the "When am I going to get my driveway back?" lectures from my dad. I got all dressed up in warm clothes, put my dad's Birdy (foldable bike) into the trunk, and was actually looking forward to the bike ride home and escaping my grandparents for a little while.

The tow truck finally arrives, and I go outside to greet him. He asks what the problem is, and I tell him it just won't start. He says "Mind if I give it a try?", and I reply with "Good luck!"

He gets in, after I apologize for the wet trash bag covering my broken window, laughing at my own sorry excuse for a car. He turns the key and it whines for a few seconds. He looks at me and says "It's gonna start" and I just sit there, shaking my head. There's no way! Right?

He just sits there for a good 20 seconds, holding the key and giving it gas, and it starts! Just like magic! He turns it off, and then starts it just like normal. Turns it off, starts it. Now he's showing off. He "just knows Hondas."

Turns out condensation builds up in the distributor if you leave it sitting for a long time (like a week) under moderate/extreme weather changes (hot sunny days, cold rainy nights). You just have to keep it revving to burn off the condensation and it works just fine.

You have no idea how stupid and ridiculous I felt, and I apologized profusely for wasting his time. He was so cool and lighthearted about everything I actually felt like calling the company he worked for to give him a glowing review. I forgot to look at his name tag though! I feel like an idiot. I'm sorry, really cool guy who works for Avenue towing. You were awesome.
