Sirius had re-read that book many times, hearing Remus’ voice saying the words in his head, but he’d never been able to finish it because when he reached the last parts, he couldn’t hear Remus’ voice anymore. -- You need to stop. That was not a kind sentence.

“I’m just sorry that I never knew, really, and that I…I never asked.” Because James had known something was wrong.
Sirius had known that James had known. But he’d never asked and Sirius had never told. They were young, after all, and neither of them had known what to do. -- That is an important conversation, and you handled it really well.

“Feeling myself? What you mean is, how about we recommit you until you’re feeling like one of us again?” -- That is also important and wow you phrased it well.

“Sirius? You know, those deaf people out there? They don’t all want to hear what we hear; the cacophony of sounds after a lifetime of peace. They don’t all want to speak in our language. Why don’t we all learn to speak theirs?” -- OH MY GOD, bless you, Mystery Author ( ... )

Wow. This is incredible. It hit a few more personal buttons that I care to publicly admit to. The idea of a bipolar Remus is clever. Nice way to bring a bit of cannon into their relationship. And the pain Sirius went through not knowing what happened, when Remus was just gone. This whole thing was so hard to read, in the way it should be. It absolutely killed me.

Firstly, I absolutely loved the opening. I loved the characterization and the interaction, and I could totally imagine eager, enthusiastic Sirius being somewhat hesitant and shy around Remus, and older Remus being somewhat remote and mysterious and unfathomable in his eyes. To me, your portrayal of that scene has that sort of magic (ironically) to it that makes me want to sketch it out somehow, if I were actually good at art ( ... )

what an amazing story! this was perfectly 'team muggle,' too, and in every way. you beautifully dealt with issues not seen or known much in the wizarding world, but your characters were perfectly canon.

this hit home in so many ways. you dealt with real life issues in a very sensitive and sensible way. it was at once hard to read (because of personal experience) and easy to relate to.

kudos

Great fic. I loved this as an idea for a Muggle AU. And the stuff with the mental illness was so well done -- I normally would have pegged Sirius as the bipolar one, but I loved how you worked with the parallels between lycanthropy and mental illness. And Sirius as this sarcastic and cynical type was great. This was the kind of fic where I was really rooting so hard for them to get together.
