Awesome RPers. You've most likely been blessed to have played with at least one of them (and hopefully many more). They are the ones who make playing lots of fun and help to feed your addiction for RP, and you can't get enough of their posts/tags/threads/etc. They have brilliant writing skills and characterization, and they never fail to amuse you in that very good way.
Then there are the ones who are just okay but not so much of a joy to play with. They could have great potential, but maybe there's just something lacking that you can't quite put a finger on. Perhaps if only they had that certain quality, they could be awesome.
And, of course, there are the ones you dread because they display atrocious writing skills, love to godmod, create numerous "Mary Sue/Gary Stu" characters, and so on. These folks may even seem utterly hopeless at RP, no matter how hard they try at it.
So my question is, what in your opinion can make the crucial difference between an awesome RPer and a mediocre one or a horrid one? Sure, great writing skills, accurate characterization, and creativity are important qualities, but what about the more specific, subtler ones as well?
I have been curious about this for a long time, and this community seems to be the best place to ask.
