Alright, I'll admit this one is weird, even for me. If not weird then a bit dated. However, I was thinking about this last night (in another bout against insomnia) and I figured what the hell I have geeks for friends why not. With all the pokemon resurgence as of late a thought came into my mind and slowly developed into a survey of the people I

The idea that I had while I was trying to sleep was an idea, something similar to a "convention" where people came together to choose a starter from a giant raffle. Instead of the first come first serve seen in the show, or the "there are only 3 pokemon and 2 of you" in the games I came up with the idea similar to the "golden ticket" kind of deal. Every year a number of winners report to this convention and are given a ticket. Starters sorted out of about 100 different pokemon (like 5 of each, except the 12 starters, of which there are only 1 of each.) You have a chance at winning one of the actual starters, but to make them more a rare deal there are many other choices for starters for the prospective trainers. Pokemon that may better suit the trainer's personality or style or training regiment. I pictured my friends and myself all waiting to get our personalized starter, and trying to imagine what it would be.
I guess I just didn't think that 4 people would choose dratini. But that is why I made sure there were two options, so some of the rarer stuff could be chosen, because after all given that we don't know all the standards of breeding and lifespans some pokemon perceived as rare may have. Somethings may be perfectly common in "reality" (if you can apply that term here.)
Anyway, it came into my head cause I was thinking about this fan made story I read back when yellow was still "up coming" and it was basically about something like this only the protagonist and his friends were in the pokemon world too, I was thinking about trecking over our world (or a reasonable clone.) If I ever wanted to write a story like that I just wanted to know what kind of stuff people would start with.
