Alright, I'll admit this one is weird, even for me. If not weird then a bit dated. However, I was thinking about this last night (in another bout against insomnia) and I figured what the hell I have geeks for friends why not. With all the pokemon resurgence as of late a thought came into my mind and slowly developed into a survey of the people I know. Given that all starters are three stage pokemon always of the grass/fire/water types there isn't a lot of diversity when you first start. Yet we all know not every trainer could/would start with one of those three types or of those 12 pokemon. So, I got one of those "What if pokemon were real" balls rolling in my head and came up with:
1) If you could choose any pokemon (outside of the 12 starters) that has three stages without any special requirements (stones, trading, etc.) which would you choose. (ex. Pidgey as opposed to Machop.)
2) If you could choose pokemon that have a special requirement (stones, trading, etc.) which would you choose to start an adventure with? (ex. Eevee, Nidoran, Abra, etc.)
*Note: Legendaries and rare pokemon are meant to be excluded from this census (yes I know eevee is apparently super rare, but go figure some random jackass on every continent has one they want to give you. Also see, porygon.)
I don't know why I get stuff like this in my head, but it probably has something to do with my love of roleplaying and the addiction to pokemon which underlay the better part of my late childhood. I get ideas for weird stories and this one is commonly recurring, what if the people I know all had just got their starter pokemon and that was just how life was, what would happen? If anyone wants further explanation upon this I actually came up with a rather strange yet fun scenario but I don't know if it's worth explaining if there's no audience.
