Lucas didn't know why Hanna had asked him for the favor, but he wasn't complaining either. It meant he would spend some time with her. He couldn't believe she was in his car. Her perfume would linger there even after she was gone. He had a feeling about this, but would test this theory in the morning.
"How long have you been working at this place?"
"Not long," she replied. She would've elaborated on the reasons why she was working there, but she felt embarrassed to. It meant she would have to mention thrashing her boyfriend's car. Lucas seemed to hold her in high regard and she would hate to tarnish that image.
"Are you enjoying it so far?"
"Yeah, it's a good experience."

Now they were at her job and she was asking him to wait for her outside the office. He agreed because he saw no harm in it. Besides anything that would prolong this experience was okay with him, even if it meant he was spending some time alone. This alone time would give him time to think about his next move. Should he get close to her? How close is too close? Then he realized she had a boyfriend and felt like a complete idiot for all the energy he was putting into these thoughts until he realized he could be her friend. The problem was he wanted more than that.
He wanted to touch her more intimately than friends were allowed to. He wanted to compliment her all the time, not just when she looked particularly ravishing and dolled up. He wanted to have memories with her that no one else would know about and when they were apart he would replay those memories in his mind so he wouldn't miss her as much. Could he ever get what he wanted? What was it that he wanted? He would need to pinpoint it exactly before pursuing it. Could it be love? Was love always this temporarily maddening?
The door swung open and Hanna stepped out of the office, accidentally bumping into him since he had been pacing.
"Sorry," they apologized in unison. They exchanged smiles and made their way back to the dance.
