At the weekends or when Charlotte is working late, I'm down the Musical Den (that's what we call the basement) with a soldering iron and a big ol' mess, making these noisy dumb things for my own amusement. They are guitar effects pedals. I get the layouts and schematics online and there are forums where you can ask questions etc. It's like a proper 1950s "hobby". I get my transistors from an old guy in Chester called Pete. People don't have hobbies anymore. It takes forever as I keep making mistakes, and it can be frustrating, but I enjoy it. The actual pedals are not that useful musically, but they are fun to play around with. I used to like to make them look like robot heads - this was easy with two knobs for eyes and the footswirch for the nose, but not really possible with 4 knobs and extra switches etc.
The green one is called a Parallel Universe, but that's a crap name and too long to fit on the box too
The Uglyface is my latest one, I finished it yesterday - it sounds like a raygun!
I made this one over xmas.
I like the Dymo look.
Maybe I'll have some time to do some more music this year.
Coming soon - the lowdown on another dumb thing that makes funny noises - my Casio Digital Guitar - it was the cutting edge of technology , in 1987 (it says here)...
