I'm starting to scare myself. As my required textbooks for cataloging haven't shown up yet, I've been occupying my time this morning by reading Understanding MARC Bibliographic: Machine-Readable Cataloging. Halfway through the first section, there have been numerous times when I've thought, "Nifty!" or "How elegant!" ... and I even said, "Wow!

Heh. Yeah, it's all fun n games til the AACR2 tells you when you MUST disregard x number of characters-- or perform action y based upon characters 1-5. Then it's just...ew.
