A collection of short thoughts, because not much is new lately.

There are lizards everywhere here. Everywhere I look, I see one, and every time I see one, I am just as excited about it as I was the first day I got here. It makes walking around the city very pleasant.

Not so pleasant is that Allyson saw a tarantula on the street near our apartment complex the other day. I had some fool idea that they wouldn't live in Natal proper, but here they are.

I like walking down the street and seeing a line of leaves marching determinedly alongside me. Leafcutter ants are everywhere, and they are every bit as adorable as you might imagine.

When Brazilian women dance, thier little feet are a blur. I can't figure out what they're doing. Someone slowed it down for me, and I still can't figure it out.

Last night we had a lab party at Selma's with delicious feijoada. Delicious. People went out afterward, but I was in bed by 10:30. I LOVED IT.

I am doing pretty well with Portuguese. I am still fascinated by the way people answer questions.

If you take me by surprise, I screw it up:
"Alex, tem un clipboard?"
"--não."

I have noticed that if you catch Selma by suprise, she will also screw it up:
"Selma, do you have a clipboard?"
"--I don't have."

All right, off to wrangle with the internet cafe people and then go to the mall. I'm going to the mall because this weekend is all about WINTER SALES.
