Orders!

After a 5 month food fight and a lot of ups and even more downs, I landed the orders I wanted after a day of Hail Mary negotiations ending at 2am. I have been selected to become a Tugmaster, in charge of the operation of my own YTB with the expectation of becoming a Harbor Pilot once I have completed the training. It sucks that you two will be apart, but it sounds like awesome opportunities for both of you. CONGRATS.

and you are awesome for not asking her to put her life on hold. Mean it, dude. When a relationship is solid, it can survive shit like that.

There is always comeing out to see Japan. Factored in with hotel, food, and other miscellanea, a good bargain hunter could pull it off for the cost of less than 2 cons.

First of all, congratulations! I'm very excited for you and actually pretty damn envious. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity to distinguish yourself and to learn about a fascinating art!

Secondly, my aunt and uncle did something very similar to what you and manywaters are planning to do. He went to Saudi after retiring (as a Commander, I believe) from the Navy and worked as a consultant in Jeddah and then Riyadh. She lived with him in Jeddah for a few years, but returned to the States while he stayed in Saudi for another 5+ years. She flew back and forth to visit and they're now happily retired and living outside of Nashville. It can be done and I have no doubt that y'all are one of the couples who can do it.
