I had a really good day yesterday. It was practically a second birthday for me.
First, I found my rings, which I mentioned in my previous post. That added an extra sparkle to my day.
Then Beth (
jupiter_box) came over and I was able to talk and complain about some of the things that were bothering me. We were going to go out and search for new DVDs, but first I took the pets out since they were both acting peculiar. That was when I noticed the packages on the bench beside of the door and I rushed the dog along so I could get to them sooner.
I read the return address on the first package and started squealing. The sweet, sweet, sweetest Heather (
choebe) sent the jewelry we had ordered for her
RAINN fundraiser. Beth received her chakra necklace and I received a chakra necklace, a moon goddess necklace (I'm saving for my mother's Christmas present), and an amazing bracelet made with moonstone, mother of pearl, and sandalwood beads (I'm not ashamed to admit that its my favorite of the items she sent). Then she also included extra gifts for the two of us. Beth received a lovely amethyst necklace and I got a wired moonstone necklace and a goody bag of extra stones (aventurine, labradorite, rose quarts, peach aventurine, falcon's eye, and howlite). And, on top of that, she wrote the sweetest and kindest letter. She rocks and had me in squeals with all my new goodies. Thank you so much, Heather! You're the best.
Then I opened the second package and discovered the
Thumbelina doll that my mom had ordered for me on E-bay. Apparently the lady was late in shipping the items and she felt so responsible that she included a free Thumbelina balloon and a Prince Cornelius doll! I was just absolutely thrilled. He looks extremely and overly gay in his pink and red shirt and yellow tights with pink wings, but he was free. And he makes a pair with my adorable Thumbelina doll, who I have never seen offered for sale anywhere else. The rest of the day, I kept bugging Beth by telling her I had a prince with pink wings.
I was so wrapped up in my new goodies, Beth had to remind me that we were going to leave and have some fun. She was, of course, right, so I put my things safely away and we left.
To shorten the description of the day, basically Beth and I spent the majority of our time driving to different stores, trying to find the best price on The Lion King box set. We eventually settled on buying it, along with Down With Love from FYE because they offered a $5 mail-in rebate. Along the way, I picked up the new Elvis CD for my mother at Circuit City, and two Elvis DVDs (for my mother) and A Midsummer Night's Dream at Wal-Mart.
People were surprisingly nice yesterday. Even a couple of workers in Wal-Mart went out of their way to help us out (even though they thought the box of The Lion King was not worth the money because it was "animated.") The same nice guy who was working last week at FYE was working yesterday and he answered our questions, even if we know a bit more about what merchandise they have in stock than he does. Of course there were some old ladies who nearly ran us down as they were backing up out of the Wal-Mart parking lot, but I'm sure they were nice as well.
When I got back home, it didn't take me long to cave into my exhaustion again so I set the VCR to tape Gilmore Girls and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and then I went to sleep.
I woke up around 3am and started watching The Lion King DVD. The movie, of course, is amazing (I had forgotten how good it is). The special features on the second disc are confusing to navigate. I'm still trying to figure the exact purpose of the continents menu. The "Circle of Life" music video sung by the Circle of Stars (Disney channel stars) depressed and amused me with its stupidity (and special effects were clearly used during several of the performer's vocals (including Hilary Duff) to make them sound better). The actual information is, of course, glossed over, but it is still good. It makes me desperately want to work in Disney's story department.
