Friday, Beth (jupiter_box) came over and I gave her the gifts I had gotten her in Minnesota. Then she patiently sat and looked as I showed her at all the books and trinkets I had brought back with me while I told most of the stories from my adventure before watching two episodes of Alias.

Saturday, I worked on getting Disney_icons up and working, of course. And spent ( Read more... )

Sorry for the completely random comment here, but you're the biggest Disney guru I know:

Sleeping Beauty is going to be released tomorrow on DVD, and I was wondering, is there any OFFICIAL news on it being released later in the Platinum Collection?

As of now, there has been nothing official announced about Sleeping Beauty being released as a Platinum Edition.

Rumors are running wild in the communities as well as on UltimateDisney.com, but it will probably be another 10 years before Sleeping Beauty is ever released again (Platinum Edition or not).

If you're wondering whether or not to buy the Special Edition, I would recommend getting it. There is no other in the near future planned (unlike Lilo & Stitch) and the company has been funny about releasing Sleeping Beauty at all before. And, despite what the commercials would have you believe, the DVD does not seemed to be packed with just games for kids. There are several "making of" specials as well as some galleries and references.

*nods*

That's good to know. I saw the dvd today at the store and it looks great, but I'm waiting to see how cheap I can get it at either Best Buy or Target first. What's the deal with the two different versions of the movie?

If you mean the two different versions of Sleeping Beauty on the disc, well, that is basically summed up as widescreen and full screen.

Sleeping Beauty was a very special movie for several reasons, but one reason was because it was filmed in Technirama, which I can only think to compare it to Cinemascope. I don't know the technicalities of it, but it basically means that the original print was much wider than the normal widescreen today. (Moulin Rouge had a similar width.)

For the first time outside of theaters (I think), you will be able to watch the movie in its original screen size on your DVD. But, then you also can decide to watch it full screen if you decide that you like that better. (But, really, who would?)

This forum post offers an example of the difference in screen sizes as well as a decent review from a real person. (Not some stuffy critic.)
