Life as we know it is back!!! wohooo!!! yep that can only mean one thing, football is back!!!
The premiership starts next saturday, but august 7th saw the start of the championship! It began with a 0-0 draw between M'Boro and Sheffield United. But yesterday was the first Reading game against Nottingham Forest at the mad stad! after last weekends visit of Chelsea (final score 2-2 and Reading were 2-0 up until 2 mins from time!), i was looking forward to the game. it was going to be totally different from last season due to the change in management as well as players. Out were Coppell, Dillion, Downes, Murty, Marcus, Doyle, Doobs, Lita and In came Rogers, Lampard Snr, Henry, Church, Robson-Kanu, Davis.
Ive been unsure about this season since the departure of the names above, but so far the team has impressed me. they have been playing the ball on the ground (something we havent done for a while) rather than the long-ball system. both games they have come out with that fire that was missing on so many occasions last season. Even during the warm up things seemed to click more! dont get me wrong i love the 'old' team and coppell was the best manager we had in years, but it was refreshing to watch these young players hungary for the game!
although while i have been impressed im still reserving judgment until the season is fully underway. i am not getting carried away like some people already after one game. the thing that worries me is that we havent got a main target man. we've got Noel Hunt, Shane Long, Simon Church, Scott Davis and Dave Mooney but until Long came on yesterday we didnt seem to have that outlet up front. Church and Davis played great and created so many chances, but i think we need someone else before the transfer window. Matthew Mills also looks like he could be a good buy for us from Doncaster. He's just what we need, a tall defender that likes to get forward!
Only time will tell i guess but so glad its back!!! the new club captain is Ivar!!! and vice captain is Alex Pearce! cant wait to see these two in action together, this will be the number one defensive partnership im sure once ivar comes back!! Pearce has always had that leadership quality and now he has the chance to step up to the plate! congrats to the pair of them!
The only other complaint yesterday was that the forest fans obviously didnt know who they were watching yesterday! kept singing about Chelsea!!! sorry you lot, wrong team!!!! wrong division! but you gave us all a laugh anyway! speaking of which....well done chelsea (i know mightypretty was at the match today).
also a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to walking_miracle for tomorrow! i hope u have a great day missy and getting lots of wear out of your birthday present already! ill try and get on during the week, but def wont be around next weekend as im going to newcastle on saturday through to sunday for the match!
