When Things Change
Chapter 3
Morgana’s point of view
Camelot had changed so much recently. It was home and has been for so many years, I’ve given up counting. When my father died, Uther took me in as his ward and raised me along side Arthur. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved growing up here. Arthur is the brother I never had, while Gwen is the best friend a girl could ask for. But for the last few months I’ve began to feel that home isn’t home anymore.
Things between Uther and myself have become more and more strained lately and Arthur’s got Merlin now, so he doesn’t need me the way he did when we were kids. That leaves Gwen, but even she seems to have become more distant over the last few months and I’m sure it has something to do with Arthur, it always has something to do with Arthur.
Arthur and Gwen have never really had much to do with each other, just in passing really. Obviously they have talked, but she was more my friend than his. However I have never seen anyone argue with Arthur except for me and Uther, but Gwen has been doing it a lot more recently. Constantly pulling him up on things that she believes he is doing the wrong way. But until Ealdor, I’ve never seen him take any notice of what she has said. Whatever happened out there, she has defiantly had an effect on him and it’s been for the better.
Arthur’s always been a prat as Merlin likes to remind him daily, but he’s become less hot headed and more reasonable lately. Like I said Gwen must have been having on influence on him somehow, I’m just not sure how. When Tom died she began to spend more time at the castle, she felt as if she couldn’t go home… this was her home now if I had anything to do with it (I’m pretty sure Arthur wouldn’t mind, he had already promised if she anything, all she had to do was ask). While losing both her parents, no matter what Gwen has always been there for her friends and never more so than when Merlin was sick. She was beside herself, she was so worried but did everything she could to help Arthur find a cure. So much so I was sure she had a thing for Merlin. I’m told she sat constantly at my bedside too when I was sick, but it was with Arthur that again I noticed a big change in her. She was so worried, I’ve never seen her as worried as that before (even with Merlin). She sat by his bedside whenever she could, but unlike with myself and Merlin, there was nothing she could so, it was out of her hands. It was then that I realised she had feelings for Arthur and if I am right, I’m pretty sure Arthur feels the same way about her.
If I’m honest I’m slightly jealous of what they have. They might not know how the other one feels but their looks and actions say it all. I wish I had someone that cared for me, like they do for each other. I know Merlin and I are becoming closer friends, but it’s still not the same.
There are just two things standing in the way for Arthur and Gwen becoming a couple…. Tradition and Uther! But if I know Arthur, he’ll find a way and I will do what I can too, they are meant to be.
