Hello Again!

Werewolf recs are coming but I'm also doing rereads of super early SPN season fics of all types, and of course that means I'm reading some gen fics for the first time because I was (and remain) a ride-or-die wincest reader/writer.

Anyway, I read this gen story that seemed to me to be whispering really loudly how confused Sam is towards Dean--is it hero worship, is it recognizing how much Dean sacrifices for family, or a teeny crush? All things are possible, and even now that the show is over, we can see the ghosts of all those feelings in grown-up Sam. I will never not love stories in which they cling to each other as the only true thing each has in their lives.

The show being gone makes talking about older stories like this a bit different. We know everything there is to know about them--or at least everything the writers wanted to tell us. We can judge characterization on how they grew on air. But nothing can make my heart sing as much as those first, early thoughts on what they were like, unspoiled by, well, the stupidity that some later writers saddled our boys with. No all, of course, but there were times when the stupid shouted louder than a more canon-feeling depiction of Dean and Sam. Reading these fresh-eyed fics are a balm to my soul. 😉😊

Title: The rest is still unwritten

Author: lyra_wing
