Today featuring werewolf recs, woop-whooo!
I'm in a mood. I plan for this to be the first of a few but don't trust me, you know I'm a lying liar who lies. 😪
This first rec, Changing Footprints by BflyW, is an incredible story, so much more than werewolf Js meeting and falling in love. This is a whole examination of culture, and how it affects the way we see ourselves, and the burden of carrying two different cultures, even if one side feels they are being truly supportive. How folks can love you, and still fuck you up. This story follows Jared, who learns about himself and discovers who he is between these two cultures( human/werewolf), and Jensen, a were who's made some mistakes in his past, and some in his present, mated life. Expectations of who a person is works against him, and it takes a while before he is able to clearly see Jared.
It's about lies and truth and trust. And, y'know, also about being a werewolf.😄 I promise you, this story is so much better than how I describe it! Jared is delightful; sweet, innocent (as innocent as an 18 year old can be, lol!) and desperately trying to find himself. Jensen is wonderful; steady, loving, and wanting nothing more than Jared to be happy. He's also kind of thick, and it takes him a while to catch up! The author also does a wonderful job with Jeff, Jared's brother, who serves to show us how sometimes seeming supportive isn't the same as actually being supportive no matter how much you love a body.
The werewolf society is more hinted at than fully fleshed out, but I'm a big fill-in-the-blanks reader, so that is actually kind of appealing to me. We get thrown right into the deep end!
Changing Footprints by BflyW Author's summary: In a world where werewolves and humans live side by side and mate with each other, lives Jared Padalecki - a young lone werewolf in a family of humans. The moment he meets the fullblood werewolf Jensen Ackles, his life changes and he goes from being a high school kid to the bondmated beta to an alpha male.
