I am so proud of my dad. He's really my hero. My dad has been overweight his entire life. He's been struggling with weight and blood pressure problems since I can remember. A year and a half ago, after over 30 years of smoking more than a pack a day, my dad quit cold turkey. That first year was rough, and even now every once and a while he still craves one. But he hasn't lit up since. Recently, he has started portioning out his food and exercising before work every morning. He's seing a doctor regularly to monitor his blood pressure and heart function. He's started going to the gym at work during his lunch break instead of taking a nap. Just this week alone, he's lost 4 pounds. When he called and told me that, he sounded like a kid on Christmas morning. He feels good, has more energy, and is generally happier. He sounds more confident and up beat than I have ever heard him sound. Just his tone of voice is better. He has always had a problem with his temper, it being bad and very fast to get angry. He has started taking a step back and analyzing situations before he reacts. He's really working hard at becoming a better, more confident person, inside and out. I'm SO VERY PROUD OF HIM. He's my role model. My dad is the kind of person who hates change. Now, he's embracing all the change around him. He's looking at life through a different set of eyes. When he reaches his goal of ultimately losing 75 lbs, with no time frame so that it is realistic, I'm going to send him and my mom on the Alaskan cruise they've been dreaming about for 24 years. Words can't even express how happy I am for him.
