So I haven't read livejournal in pretty much forever. Russian school has kept me fairly busy, and the last Harry Potter just arrived at my house today--so this is my opportunity to say something before I totally get wiped off the face of the earth--or wiped off the internet anyhow. Nowadays those two things are pretty synonymous. From time to time i might be able to check my email and even post pictures, but that won't be very often, since the university where I am going in only has wireless in one hallway on the entire campus, and when I don't use it there I have to pay to go to an internet cafe. I have no idea how much that will cost, but hopefully once or twice a week will fit into my budget. We can hope.
I am also subject to the language pledge there since it is also a Middlebury program, so I will try to only speak and write in Russian most of the time. The language pledge does work regardless of what people think, it really helps and if you obey within reason, you will really notice an improvement.
I have also decided that my dream in life is to be a college professor, because most of the people I looked up to from the time I was little till now, were always teachers. I am always torn between languages and history though. I think though, that if I can I would really like to teach Russian and German, and I can get my masters in languages, and then if I change my mind I can always return to history. And I still hope to teach history--but the ideal for me would be teaching Russian history--in Russian and the same goes for German history. And when you study languages you get a little bit of everything: culture including art and performance art, literature, history and politics as well as the more concrete things like linguistics and grammar-and ALL of those things really interest me. I love helping people to understand things better as well as teaching them things and maybe even helping them to see things from a different perspective.
All I can say is that I am extremely lucky to have had such good teachers in the history department and in language, because in my opinion having a decent teacher can make all the difference.
Geesh I can already see myself making grammar charts for my students...I think I inherited this dementia from my father (who happens to be an English professor).
This is really corny so I understand if you regret reading this.
