He was, in fact, across the street, lingering a little in the shade of a stall. As far as he could see, their traveling party was exactly as Cherry said it would be: one woman, one blue hedgehog, one fox. Try as he might, he couldn't see any cover men. But, then, he'd had about four lessons period from Vivian ever, and they didn't really stick, sometimes.
Fine. Might as well.
He slipped through the crowd, and tapped Cherry on the shoulder. "It's me," he said. "Derek Rayne. I have a room upstairs - we should probably head on up."
Sonic took a look around as soon as they stopped in front of the place. He knew it was pointless since he had no idea what this Rayne guy looked like, but it felt like the thing to do.
Then the guy approached, and apparently had no weird reaction to seeing either Sonic or Tails. Sure, Cherry had described what they were, but reading about something and actually seeing it could be two very different things. Sonic decided he liked this guy.
He nodded at Rayne's suggestion, but since the man had addressed Cherry, Sonic waited for her to go first.
Cherry turned to look at Rayne. Well, he looked normal enough. Of course, looks could be deceiving, but there was no use in getting paranoid just yet. "Well," she said with a slight smile, "nothing like the direct approach." It wasn't every day a young man invited her up to his room.
She glanced at Sonic, nodding slightly. She had gotten the sense from Cedric's entry that they were about to receive bad, and potentially dangerous, information. "Sounds like a plan."
Rayne was, in fact, burnt out on 'weird' to the point where Sonic and Tails? Really didn't matter that much to him. He was going to run with the assumption that they were sentient beings who could talk, until proven otherwise.
He led them through the door, past the doorman - who recognized Rayne, by now, Jesus Christ - and up the stairs to the second floor.
The room itself was more of a suite, really, and much more opulently furnished than an equivalent apartment in Jhelbor.
"Cherry," he said, pointing to Cherry, like he was memorizing her name. "And who are you guys?"
