Tails had decided to explore the city and see what he could learn about it early that morning. So he'd set out alond the pedestrian walkways and through the city. He quickly determined that the man who was in charge had been right, the city needed to be fixed...Plus, if he remained helpful and stayed out of obvious mischief there might come an opportunity to learn something about what was going to happen in this place. Tails couldn't be sure that the well-being of all the city's resident's was the goal since he'd apparently come in after a battle or something. Maybe as a way to lay low he'd try starting a workshop. Technology wasn't his only strong point after all.

Unfortunately, the yellow fox was so lost in thought on the circumstances of the city and its people that he'd stopped paying attention to where he was going...the curse of being a braincase...and quite predictably bumped into someone from behind. Quickly he stepped backwards, glad he'd been walking slowly. "I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't watching where I was going..."

He'd been in the middle of watching the de-builders in the process of dismantling a building on the East side of the city when someone bumped into him, from behind.

Royal turned, eyebrows raised in surprise, and found himself face-to-face with a --

"Well," said Royal, "those here often say I have eyes in the back of my head, so I suppose it's my own fault for not using them." He smiled, reassuringly. "Can I assume that you're - Tails, is it?"

Tails nodded, knowing all too well that his appearance made it perfectly easy to know who he was. "Yeah, that's me. And who might you be?" Royal didn't seem threatening or anything so a friendly approach was only natural. Besides Tails was still a friendly kid.

Tails smiled. He didn't seem quite as intimidating as he had on the journals. "Yes we did, it's nice to meet you Mr. Royal," he said politely. "Were you doing anything important before I interupted?" It was best to leave him be if that was the case.

"Oh yes," said Royal, with a laugh. "Important affairs of state, isn't that right?" And he winked at the construction worker he'd been talking to.

She blushed, and mumbled something about heading back to work.

Once she was gone, Royal nodded to Tails that they should walk, down the city street. "Today I'm on walkabout," he told Tails. "I like to know what's going on everywhere in the people I lead."

Tails didn't know much sbout flirting, but he figured that was probably what had been going on. Falling into step with Royal, Tails nodded. "It can be a lot of work, huh?"

Placing his hands behind his head he turned his gaze skyward. "Looking after the well-being of others I mean. It really takes a lot of responsibility?" Not that he didn't know, it was just conversation.

"It does indeed," said Royal, "but it's a responsibility I would gladly undertake."

So long as it meant he could end this damn war.

"How are you finding your adjustment to the city?"

"Sounds a little like someone I know."

At Royal's question, Tails shrugged. "It's only really the first day, but I found someone I know here already." That had made the first night much easier n him.

Royal smiled. "That's excellent," he said.

Truth be told, he wasn't sure it would make them easier to recruit or harder. But better to show joy about it than not.

"I'm not sure many others came through directly from the same world," he said. "Actually, I'm not sure about much about the tree. Not really an expert in mysticism."

"Neither am I actually," Tails said. It was easy to recall that no one seemed to know much regarding the tree. "Building and fixing things is my strong points...well and flying."

Royal raised his eyebrows. "Flying?" he echoed. He'd never seen a fox fly before.

"Yeah, I can fly pretty fast," Tails replied, unsurprised by the reaction. He was the only flying fox he knew.
