WHO: Jack and Ianto
WHAT: Jack comes home to a nice surprise
WHEN: Monday evening - late, because he doesn't know there's anything waiting for him
WHERE: Jack and Ianto's flat
Jack wasn't coming home early these days. Of course, that was only because he had so much going on, and there was nothing to come home to. Not much appeal in an empty flat when he could be drawing up plans for city repairs and theoretical budgets for when theoretical tax revenues started rolling in.
As soon as he opened the door, though, it was obvious things had changed. For a start, there were books everywhere - covering the table and the chairs and in neat piles on the floor. Bookcases. They needed bookcases. Even if Ianto would end up bringing most of it back to the embassy, there should be a place for him to read at home. Bookshelves, and a comfortable chair. Something soft and overstuffed. All the thoughts came and went very quickly, and he didn't pay them much mind, because there was something much more important to focus on.
All thoughts of pouncing and devouring fizzled as soon as he hit the threshold of the bedroom door. Ianto looked so peaceful and sweet, lying there holding Jack's pillow. He hadn't even bothered to get his trousers off before he'd passed out. Tired. He looked tired. Not sleeping well. They'd talked about that. Jack leaned against the frame and just watched him for a long while.
He'd lost this once. He hadn't done things properly and he'd been selfish and confused and ignorant. Not this time. This time he was going to appreciate what he had while he had it. As quietly as he could, Jack slipped out of his coat and folded it carefully, everything else he just left where it landed, a little trail leading from the door to the unoccupied side of the bed. The sheets were only warm near Ianto, so Jack wrapped himself around him and held him tightly and kissed the back of his neck. Sleep was... not what he'd planned for this homecoming, but just being near Ianto made it all better than it was before.
