An excellent summary of Finland's 88 year old independent history in maweisse's lj.
Once again it's time to celebrate as only we Finns can: no fireworks or carnivals but somber remembrance of our not-so-distant past and sacrifices of our grandparents and their parents. And of course the awaited entertainment show of the year, the formal festivities from the presidential castle and rating all those beautiful (and on ocaasion, hideous) gowns the invited people and celebrities wear. :)
