We've done a bit of research for Wyoming, but haven't looked too close at Colorado yet. It was my understanding that the market is almost flooded there, except around the national and state parks (which are almost impossible to receive drilling rights for). I'll make sure to look more thoroughly though - Colorado would be in the top 3 for my choices. Thanks!
Both my mother and I have a long history of O&G experience in the North Central Texas area. Plus the contacts from smaller O&G firms who are willing to "spot us" up to two million a piece to open up a new office, get the leasing done, and begin drilling. They don't want a saturated area, naturally, but are willing to be very flexible as to location. Meaning that we can choose where we want to put down roots, and where my daughter wants to finish high school.
Checking with the Dept. of the Interior for any state is a wonderful idea that we haven't explored yet. Thanks for the tip! As soon as we've done the rest of the legwork, we'll use their Interior's info as a final decision maker.
Also there are law firms that specialize in oil/gas/mineral leasing - buttloads of them in Colorado, especially Denver. I can tell you that northern Colorado is one of the most lovely places on the face of the earth. :)
Drilling - all over Colorado and Wyoming. Insane amounts of jobs in Colorado according to my mother.
