Kai was able to lose many things: his wallet, his keys, for he knew that eventually, those things would come back to him, and it would be as if he had never lost them in the first place. And then, there were things he couldn't afford to lose. His dignity, his ability to look the rest of the band straight in the eye. Uruha. If lost, those things would never come back to him.

There was something about them that felt almost coin operated. If you took something away, if you changed something about this routine, it wouldn't be the same. Ruki was smoking, and pushing his glasses back up his nose. Aoi was smoking, and pacing around the room. Reita was flexing his fingers, Uruha was sitting at the make-up table, Kai was drumming against his thighs. Outfifts and hairstyles change over the years, but this never changed.

Reita rubbed his hands together. "We should...- We should go soon." The way in which he said it gave off the impression that he wasn't confident about what he was saying. Uruha looked down to his lap, nodded softly, and then stood up. He walked out of the room, into the hallway, and Kai followed him. He wasn't thinking, what was he thinking? Nothing. His mind was empty. It was an impulse to follow Uruha, wherever he went.

The lights gave the hallway a green tinge. Uruha was leaning against the wall, arms behind his back, and he said, "It's at times like these that I wish I smoked still."

Kai heard his own voice before his brain registered that he actually had said something. "Why?"

"Because then I would be busy destroying my body on the inside, and I'd forget what I feel on the inside," Uruha said. He threw his head back, and the pain from his collision with the wall made his eyes water. He blinked. "Forgive me. I'm being silly."

Their eyes met, and Kai saw a little spark in Uruha's eyes. It flickered, and for a moment, Kai thought that it would diminish. Yet it only grew stronger; and in a moment of clear clarity, Kai stretched his arm to touch Uruha's cheek. Uruha leaned into his touch - everything that he felt on the inside was now beginning to show, and he felt powerless to stop it.

Not that it mattered, in the end.

"We should go, they've waited long enough...oh Kai," Uruha stammered, his thoughts running faster than he could speak, but when Kai kissed him, everything fell into place. The light from above cast a shadow on the wall. Nothing was lost.
