Summary: Kyo's fingers reached Ruki's belt, and something within Ruki froze. "I thought I could do this. But I can't."
Kyo's new black shirt had found its place on the floor. Ruki felt his heartbeat against Kyo's chest, and it was somewhat ironic that the very reminder for to keep on breathing almost took Ruki's breath away. With the faintest trace of uncertainty, Ruki allowed himself to fall into Kyo's bed; there is no such thing as a false sense of security. He had learned that a long time ago.
Or perhaps...- Ruki's lips parted as Kyo trailed his jawbone with kisses, and his hands found the skin underneath Ruki's shirt. Nothing felt real. It was as if he was watching a movie about two people so strikingly similar, and the most he could do was comment on how much he wanted it to be something more than just imaginary. But his brain told him that it was real, that September had been wasted away singing songs which had become the soundtracks of their lives. That tomorrow he had to make an appearance somewhere, that Kyo would wear the same clothes.
(But then, you could ask to what extent should we believe the things that our brain tells us to be true?)
Kyo's fingers reached Ruki's belt, and something within Ruki froze. He turned his head to the side so fast that Kyo's lips only softly grazed Ruki's cheek. The tiger on Kyo's hip suddenly gained life: he was angry, and disappointed, and everything that Ruki didn't want him to be. He felt his heart beating in his throat.
"I thought I could do this. But I can't."
Kyo dropped his head in the smooth curve of Ruki's neck; Ruki's fingers played with Kyo's hair, staring aimlessly into the ceiling. He didn't want to let go, he didn't want to lose that warmth that Kyo had. Or perhaps Kyo was just turning his feelings into something that wouldn't hurt Ruki.
Or perhaps...-
Ruki said, "Or perhaps my life is just a stage, and you're my biggest tragedy."
