Para-medic is absolutely wowed by the special effects of modern sci-fi. Like any person from her era, she feels that there's a certain character that has gone missing from the genre, and she's a little sad about it, but. For the most part she's happy with the progress. Movies like "The Day After Tomorrow" still serve as a gauge of what the issues of the time are, and the genre is still able to occassionally push for progress the way old sci-fi did by depicting how things should be. Old sci-fi would push for gender equality by letting a woman be a starship bride officer, or racial equality by letting a black man be a leader, or by letting a Russian be a trusted member of the crew during the COLD WAR, etc. Little things like that for her to think about are kind of missing...even the monster movies don't really have bare-bones moral lessons for her to come away with, really.

And there is the largely-forgotten distinction that sci-fi is literally a production that focuses on SCIENCE. These days we tend to just shove whatever happens in space into sci-fi, etc., and she feels that's an unfortunate oversimplification that has contributed to the dumbing down of the sci-fi "character."

BUT HOT DAMN THOSE SPECIAL EFFECTS, IT'S LIKE JAMES CAMERON'S ALIENS ARE GOING TO JUMP RIGHT OFF THE SCREEN AND EAT YOU THAT IS SO AWESOME.

I like to assume that Tazendra has continued to hang out in Lady's bar, continually asking her to play music about people HEROICALLY DEFEATING OVERWHELMING ODDS. What's the top three songs Lady would come up with?
