Things I learned from going car shopping

On Wednesday this week I went car shopping, specifically I tried to get a VW Rabbit.
I failed in this endeavor and am currently going to get my car fixed. I learned an important thing though, which is going to help me the next time I try to get a car.
The "only" thing that stopped me from getting a car this time around was the negative equity in my current vehicle. So, that tells me what I need to do is:
A.). Pay off my car by the end of the year.
B.). Have equivalent cash saved up to nullify the negative equity
I'm leaning towards option B personally, money talks loud and clear when it comes to business transactions.
I'm also feeling pretty hopeful, that this is an attainable goal for me. I've gotten a decent raise this year and I will be going back to a later shift which will increase my shift differential by 5%. Those two changes spell out about another $200 a month for me.
I'm also going to be getting rid of those bad debts I'd mentioned before, that too means more cash in hand. Still trying to figure out what to do about the cellphone bill. If I want to keep the Blackberry, then there isn't much trimming that can be done. If I ditch the Berry, there is trimming that can be done.
I know most of you have a very utilitarian view of cellphones, but I consider it a hobby basically and really a passion almost. It's not cheap, but a guy's gotta have a hobby.
So yeah, I'm kind of disappointed I couldn't get my Bunny(VW Rabbit), and I'm having to put money into a car I don't want to. Things could be worse though, I could be without a car.
:D
