Welcome to the Caribbean, love!

Well, my constant readers (or else not-so-constant), here I am. I survived the plane trip down to Ft Lauderdale, and though this trip has solidified my hatred of the state of Florida into a solid mass coalescing in my very bosom, it feels good to be out on the open water--for soon we will be no longer in the waterspace of that horrid peninsula we've come to know and despise as America's penis.

So far I find this giant cruise ship to be a little overwhelming; getting to and from places is a touch inconvenient simply due to the up-and-down nature of many of the upper decks. Also, it's decidedly difficult to find any drinks around here that don't have rum in them. The food, however, seems quite good. I've been told that while you're on a cruise, you cease to notice that you're actually on a boat; however, in my opinion there's a certain telltale swaying that gives it away. The internet is here but fairly slow; it's tied to a satellite, so weather conditions don't always make it viable. Since it costs a whopping $.75 per minute, don't expect a great many updates from me, but if something particularly memorable happens I'll be sure to make it on here. There are a TON of internet terminals, so I don't expect availability to flag. My phone is NOT callable, as there is zero reception out here.

Overall, this whole setup is ridiculously lovely, if a little overpopulated. There are many, many people on here, causing me to wish to avoid peak hours in everything from decks to meals to... well, internet. I suspect I'll be spending a fair amount of time in my stateroom (that's what they call the cabins) reading. While in Ft Lauderdale, I picked up a whole stack of books to keep me occupied while we're not on shore.

In two days we'll hit St. Martin--our first island--and there I'll get to disembark and go horseback riding. This will be my first time on a horse in years, so I expect it to be fully as awesome as I remember. Cute horsies <3

So treasure these little entries from me, since they won't exactly crop up often. Feel free to leave comments and send email, since I most likely will be checking those things at least once daily; it doesn't take too long. Have a happy holiday (in general) and a merry Christmas tonight and tomorrow, for those of you who do that whole thing. Can't wait to see my peeps again when I come home in ONE WEEK!
