Another argument against publishing original slash emphasises the importance of intertextuality. For a number of slash fans intertextuality is a basic requirement. They like their slash stories and characters embedded within ( Read more... )

So, two years after joining fanfiction-fandom because of the attractive perspective to be able to write and post freely, because I felt restricted by the official publishers, I’m in the situation that my stories are banned in the net in Germany, but accepted by publishing houses.
That is so weird..
I never knew how you felt about the film trilogy, and I am happy you posted your opinion. As much as I love FOTR - and I really do - I was never that estatic on TTT and ROTK. As wonderul as the special effects are, I think there's a bit too much battles in it, ROTK almost boringly so. Feels like blasfemy to say it, but that's how I feel. I also agree on the scenes they took out in favor of those battles.

Like you I am not moving anywhere in fandom, because - again like you - I am into man, not into boys or young men, never saw the attraction. And friom those men, only Sean and Viggo attract me. This basically means that even if you would write a masterpiece in our fandom, you would still not receive as much f/b as when you write crap in others. That's not saying there's just crap in those other fandoms, absolutely not, let me make myself clear, just the larger popularity of other fandoms.

So it's great you're doing all this work to try and get as many writers from LJ published as you can. Your reasons for that you made very clear, and I fully agree with you.

It is true, we don't have a clue how these people really are. I know I write Viggo and Sean as I want them, my fantasy, and I don't think for a minute they are really in a relationship.

Because I run a website about Sean does mean I try to find out useful stuff about his work and life, but I try to not let that interfere with what I write. That are two totally different things in my opinion. Therefor I have no problems at all with the lacking of intertextuality.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, govi - and yes, you're right, FOTR is the best by far for me, too :). Hope we'll go on having a bit of an adventure together in fandom as well as 'outside'.
Btw., are all the interpretation together in that one challenge-post? I downloaded these, but just want to be sure there are no additional interpretations I missed. :)

There were two more, but those people never got back to me.
