Quick Empty Hearse reaction post

Warnings for spoilers and me being a negative nancy.

I'm so out of touch with fandom these days, I don't know how people are generally reacting to this episode. But personally, I hate the fan service. Hate it. I don't want winks to the audience, I don't want fandom represented in the episode. It was cute at first, then quickly felt like pandering. I don't even want to know what Sherlock's parents are like, or who Molly is dating, or what's become of Anderson, or whether Mycroft is lonely, or whether Sherlock is famous, unless it serves the story. And considering there was hardly any story to serve, practically everything in the episode felt like filler. Sure, it was cute and fun and made me laugh and groan and I'll watch the episode again, but it wasn't good writing. I really really hope they've gotten the fan service out of their system, because I don't want a single nod for the next two episodes. Stop acknowledging my presence when I'm looking for quality fiction!

Sorry if that came out too bitter. I just want Sherlock to be the best show it's capable of being. And this is also vaguely tied to a lot of problems I've had with Doctor Who, but that's a longer separate rant. Fingers crossed for the next two episodes.

rambling, review, sherlock
