Recipe
It's a cold, gloomy day. It's raining and windy and neither one of us wants to go anywhere. It's the kind of day made for dragging the spare comforter out to the couch and wrapping up in it to settle in to watching movies. We have popcorn and Cokes for lunch, but dinner is going to require something much more substantial. I know exactly what I want to make.
I start by browning hamburger, then draining it. I add in five different kinds of beans, a can of diced tomatoes, some water, and then I add Chugwater Chili seasoning. Then, I let the pan simmer for a while. I make us a little garlic bread to go with it. Once the chili is done, I dish up a bowl for him and one for me, sprinkle in some cheese and drop a hefty glob of sour cream on them, then we go back out to the couch to eat and finish watching “The Man Who Knew Too Little.”
Chili recipe: (word of warning, this is a dump and taste recipe, as in dump stuff in, taste it, repeat until you get it the way that you like it)
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 can chili-ettes (undrained)
1 can pinto beans
1 can navy beans
2 cans kidney beans (1 undrained)
1 can diced tomatoes (undrained)
1 can red beans
lemon juice
lime juice
Chugwater chili mix
garlic powder
salt
pepper
In a big soup pot, brown the ground beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Drain the hamburger. Put the hamburger back into the pot. Add all of the beans, the tomatoes, a splash of lemon juice, a splash of lime juice, two cans of water, and Chugwater Chili mix to taste, add more garlic powder if desired. (if you like soupier chili, add more water and tomato juice until it's the consistency you like) Cook at least until heated. It can simmer longer for a richer taste.
