Sunday Scribblings Post-Prompt "Where in the World"

Where in the world

I realize that very few people understand my obsession with my moped. It's not a very fast vehicle, nor is it very big, but it's a blast to ride. There's something about being able to see the area where you live on two wheels, without an glass or steel or plastic between you and the air and sunlight. There's something to be said ( Read more... )

It makes me want to have a moped! I'm no longer able to hike around my city like I once did, and a moped seems like a good solution to seeing, smelling and savoring the things that make each day special.

I'd definitely recommend it. Mine's 32 years old, rescued from a junk heap, and restored by my dad and I ride most every day-and have been since the beginning of summer. So far, it's taken me less than 2 gallons of gas and not quite 1/2 a quart of 2 stroke oil. I don't have to license it in my state (because it's under 50cc) and don't have to insure it for the same reason. Mine starts very easily and runs great!

I like that your speed allows you to notice what's around you and how true that being happy where you are right now is what it's all about. great post!

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing another view about bikes/mopeds. I know a moped is a more gentle version of the bike which my hubby has but I am terrified of them and always have been. I don't know why other than I have had friends lives lost to them and I have never been brave enough to get on one. I am going to try to beat that though, when I get up the courage. You made the journey you take on yours sound so nice the personification of freedom. When asked to go for a ride my stomach jumps and... Oh dear I have not managed it yet, but......one day.

Well, if it helps, I had an uncle who lost his leg in a motorcycle accident, but he got back on the bike and rode. He died on a motorcycle, and I miss him, but I know that he'd be heartbroken if he was the reason that I didn't ride any more. There's a part of me that knows that every ride that I take that brings me joy and that sense of freedom is an honor to his memory and every time that I'm out there on the road, I can feel him with me and he's smiling and proud.

And remember it's okay to start small. Maybe, instead of starting with "Today I will ride" start with "Today I will sit on the bike" or even "Today I will go out and I will touch the bike" and work up to "Today I'm going to stand RIGHT THERE while he starts the bike" and, so on. Sometimes, you just have to work your way up to being brave-and that's okay.
