close call - jesusita fire
I've been allowed back onto the property.
Well, it was a closer call than I realized. The fire came through the property, and burned both my front and back garden.
It was my metal rooftop and firefighters that saved the place.
My area is burned to my north, east, and west. South is where the other houses on the street are.
Looks like a firebreak was plowed, started in my back garden, going all the way down a canyon, back up the other side, probably all the way to Hwy 154.
Just put out a smoldering log near my cottage. Thank goodness for blundstone boots, protected me feet from the hot ash over a foot deep there.
Lots of firefighters are here, putting out the hotspots. During their break, I taught them how to feed the bluejay. Imagine 10-15 hot fire-dudes, all standing there with peanuts in their hands, calling for the jay.
