Part 3: Parte Final

Apr 13, 2009 18:46

Well, basically this is the last part because I don't think I'll remember very well if I wait much longer.  As I type, I'm watching a bit on Hearst Castle.  Absolutely amazing place.

Day 2: We didn't stay up late Sunday night because we were pretty knocked out from the flying, which was funny because of the time change.  We ended up going to bed pretty early by California standards.  In the morning we were treated to breakfast by Uncle Jim and he had the best grapes I have ever tasted.  I remember Uncle Jim making breakfast, Brian typing away on his laptop, and me dancing around the room as I tried out various CDs from UJ's collection.

We went for a beautiful walk next through the ranch and down to the coast.  Cambria has the perfect mixture of mountains, rolling green hills, ocean, and rocky ledges.  I stopped about every 2 minutes taking picture after picture (much like someone else that I know).

Later we grabbed some food (another burger and fries for me! -- but with avacado on it -- ABC  Burger yum yum!).  Then we were off to go wine tasting.  We passed vineyard after vineyard on this neat hilltop and finally ended at the one his friend had recommended.  (Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it.)   I remember UJ teasing me that I was chugging the wine instead of tasting it. (I was ready for the next one!) and the wine was generally quite tasty.

Before our tour of Hearst castle, we stopped briefly by a spot on the coast where the sea lions sunbathe.  100s and 100s of them.  It was pretty crazy.

And then Hearst Castle.  I blown away by the whole thing.  I don't know what it is about that place, but I was just enchanted.  The place is just beautiful.  The gardens, the ppols, the architecture, and the interior design is so beautiful.  Really, it's best to look at the pictures.  It's too bad it was a bit dark in there (night tour).  Now I want to see Citizen Kane.

That night we had some wine and then called it a night.  (The restaurant we wanted to visit was closed already.  California restaurants close early, like by 9.)  :-(

The next day we went for a quick walk in the rain along a different part of the coast.  We picked up some pretty rocks to take home with us.  (Security ended up asking us about those.)

Then we found a pub in which UJ's persistence scored Brian a viewing of the opening Sox game.  (Sox won. Yay!)  That time I had clam chowder in a sourdough bowl.  Yum!

We ended our time by sharing Brian's bottle of wine (Brian and I each got a bottle and didn't want to pay to send it back).  We watched a German movie called "Other People's Lives."  or something like that.  I loved it.  It was just the optimistic type of movie that I'd been craving lately.

Finally, we were off and running to the airport.  San Luis Obispo's airport is so teeny teeny tiny.  Like, one room for the check in, security, and waiting room.  UJ hung around to make sure we were ok.  And then we were off to the plane.  I think I slept most of the time.  Then, Martiza picked us up :-D.  And then we went to sleep again.  And that was it.  :-D  But the pictures tell it best.
