Early morning always smells so good

Rather then attempt to bring everyone up to speed on what I've been doing these past several months since I updated, this is just general thoughts.

The current topic concerning immigration seems to be making everyone a little crazy, it seems to me that some americans have forgotten that everyone started as an immigrant here, (minus the american indians whom we've already throughly screwed over). I cannot understand why some people are seemingly so opposed to diversity, personally whenever I encounter some one remotely foreign to the country I feel grateful that they're here and take to them more kindly when they either come into my work or when I'm somewhere that they work. People who have british or indian accents, people who are obviously still learning english as a second or even third language they appear as very endearing to me. Why do so many people fail to recognize that diversity is great and ultimately better? It's great and should be appreciated the same way people appreciate the fact that there are so many different types of food .... we wouldn't have so many different dishes if it weren't for different cultures.
Now don't think that people and food are interchangable in my mind, I just am trying to illustrate the benefits of diversity and how having varied nationalities in our country truly contributes to making our country great. I wish people would stop being so fearful of the unknown and instead could embrace the difference between people and celebrate them. I don't want to sound too sentimental or cheesy, but I do think that individual cultures are important and worthwhile to know about or even experience. I would have thought more people would be able to recognize that some of the greatest cities in the world are the ones that are most diverse, take New York or London for example.
Many americans seem ignorant and ethnocentric about the issue, for example hanging signs that say, "We only serve customers who speak american." I understand that it is expected of immigrants to learn english, it'll take them a while and even the immigrants who got here hundreds of years ago took their time to learn it. Many of the older immigrants wouldn't know much english and relied on their children who could pick up the language more easily. The same is still true today. English is a much harder language to learn than french or spanish and most high school students who are taught for two years barely remember a few sentances.

So, that's it, no conclusive thoughts besides that rambling mess. I've attempted to see the issue from both sides, but as with gay marriage there doesn't seem to be much of an argument besides the fact that some people just don't like it.
