Kounodori

After I finished Yokoso, Wagaya e, I went right into Kounodori. Our local Japanese cable station was a having freeview and this show was airing. I was able to watch the first episode with no subs. Unfortunately, I'm a beginner when it comes to Japanese, so I didn't understand everything. But anyway, fast forward several months and I was able to watch this with subs. Yay!

This drama stars Ayano Go, Hoshino Gen, Yoshida Yo, and many others. I'm a fan of Ayano Go ever since Crows Zero days. Most of the roles he plays are serious or unemotional (is that even a word). But I really enjoyed him in Soratobu Kouhoushitsu where he played a happy, upbeat, positive guy. Now on to this drama. Again, similar in playing a positive, caring doctor with a mysterious alter-ego. I really liked him in this one as well as the rest of the cast. The banter between Matsuoka Mayu's Shimoya and Sakaguchi Kentaro's Shirakawa was great! First time watching these two in a drama. Yoshida Yo is not one of my favorite actresses, but I really liked her role as the "older sister" type in this show. Hoshino Gen as the seemingly callous, but extremely doctor was a great complement to Ayano's character. Along the line of different characters, I LOVED seeing Oguri Shun as a recurring guest in the series. I love that Ayano and Oguri makes appearances in each other's projects!!

This show portrayed all the different emotional facets of pregnancy and childbirth - the happiness, the struggles, the apprehension, the joy, the heartaches, every emotion you can think of. Oguri Shun's storyline was probably the most heart-wrenching of all the stories. But believe me, with each story, the tears flow. Happy tears, sad tears.... but it the end, it was all worth it. Highly recommend watching this drama.

The theme song by miwa - Anata ga Koko ni Ite Dakishimeru Koto ga Dekiru Nara was soooo good. The lyrics... just get you right in the heart. I'm a big fan of miwa's theme songs for dramas. And if you get a chance to watch the MV for this song, it really goes along the lines of the drama. Highly recommended.
