It felt so good to take a breath of cool, clean night air for the first time in over a month that Rin actually felt herself tearing up - she couldn't control it, and had to stop for a moment to rub hard at her eyes before moving along again. Evening, and the whole island breathed; small animal noises came from the woods, the chirp of frogs and rustling leaves.
She stopped first at the table to load up on the food that (for once) she recognized, and then moved away from the group towards the edge of the water. She didn't want to be too close to all of these people right now, and looking around at them...
She'd cared so much for all of them once. Now, for the most part, she felt vague resentment and exhaustion.
It was like something was dying in her, something that had been as vital as breath before. And now she did her best to breathe life back into it - for some reason. Something, that thing that she'd lost, or nearly lost; shrunk to the size of a kernel of corn, weak as a dying candle.
The sea breeze did a little to revitalize it. Rin popped a piece of eel into her mouth, savoring the tang of sauce on her tongue, and kept moving towards the water.
He’d told Doumeki that he would… well, he would actually meet him out there, at the party…thing. He hated these things though. But it was outside and fresh air and… well, it couldn’t hurt, right? He slipped out of his room leaving his room with the orderly that took him and others out, and made his way to the party.
There was no huge change of attire. He left on his pants and white button front shirt. His shoes how ever he left at his room, because walking on sand in shoes was easy, but it was a pain to get out of the shoes.
So, fully dressed he made it outside, seeing the pretty display that they put on. So… strange to be able to go outside. And there was food, and drinks. He found himself picking at a few things, looking around for a dark haired man who should be here as well. He was no where to be found, that he could tell, but he kept an eye out. BOTH eyes! He had both!
It was good to see again painlessly. And seeing, he did. He saw a pretty young woman not far form him and for some reason, the sight of her made him smile. Softly he spoke “Rin-chan?” a questioning look as he walked up behind her a bit. Looking to her face he gave a bit of a smile, relief washing over him. It was nice to see his room mate again. His old room mate that is. He had heard her yelling and knew she was here, but was worried to bother her. Now though… it was nice to see her.
Rin jumped slightly at her name, but it was only a moment before she recognized the voice - and then she turned, giving Watanuki a smile that was small but actually felt surprisingly genuine. Indeed, there he was... her slender (former) roommate, approaching her with a gentle smile.
"Watanuki-kun," she said softly, moving to stand a little closer to him and bowing slightly. "I'm glad to see you're as improved as the rest of us... you look better than I've seen you in - ages."
She paused there, momentarily, unsure of how much she wanted to say, if she wanted to say anything at all. If there were staff nearby... well, her pathetic little ruse of not believing in St. Edelweiss had probably just been dispelled. Then again, it was flimsy already.
He paused and raised a hand to slide a finger under his glasses and rub at his golden eye. “Yes… it feels nice to be able to see again properly.” He confessed softly, looking her over to see she seemed to be in one piece too. His smile was soft and he straightened up again, lowering his hand and looking about as well.
There was few people around right now, so talk should be fine, though she seemed to make no show of hiding this Edelweiss from him either. It was real, they all knew that. None the less, he nodded to her. “It has been ages. You look better as well.” And sounded better then she had just the day before, he noted.
“I’m… still here. Obviously. Looking for Doumeki. He’s… doing better as well.” Though he still wanted to see him again. Even if he saw him not long ago he wanted to find him once more.
He had both eyes again - put back in somehow, good as new, or restored like it was never lost. Or regrown somehow, or repaired as the kessen-chu could do... she had no idea, really. But she hoped that eye would be around for a while. Suchong was around, after all, and God knew if he'd take to the idea of removing it again.
At least Mayuri wasn't here. Although perhaps he'd have no interest in Watanuki's biology.
Rin glanced around, noting fellow inmates and their approximate positions before stepping forward and reaching for her - friend, she supposed. Her friend's arm. "Walk with me a bit, Watanuki? We can keep an eye out for him."
Yes, there was always that wonder and worry that the doctor would try to take his eye again. He had already spoken to someone about Ghosts, but that was before the doctor had made his presence known again. He himself said nothing to him, staying silent to all the doctors in hope that they would ignore his existence, to leave him alone. Who knows, it might have worked.
None the less he was now going to be careful of how he spoke about what he say. Perhaps if he convinced them he was well and didn’t see anything (which he hadn’t seen anything at all just yet anyhow) that things would be better and he’d not have to go through all that again.
But he nodded, letting her take his arm, leaving it out so she could hold on to it, like a proper gentlemen would. His friend, yes. He thought of her as a friend at least. He’d do what he could for her in Edelweiss. Or at least he tried to. He wasn’t the bravest or strongest, but he tried.
He started to walk, letting her take lead if she wanted, but otherwise just… walked where ever there were less people. “That sounds like a good idea.” He glanced down to her. “You… look like your feeling well. Are you?”
Rin couldn't stop her mouth from twisting a little. "I am alive," she said slightly shortly, "And apparently sound. I suppose that means I am well enough."
And she was so extremely tired.
Watanuki didn't need to listen to her moaning the whole time, though.
They were a little removed from the main body of the group by now; enough that Rin would speak frankly. With a quick glance around to ascertain that there were no staff members or strangers within easy hearing distance, Rin pulled gently at his arm, urging him to bend over a little so she could speak directly into his ear.
“I suppose that is better then nothing at all.” He said softly, walking with her, looking about for Doumeki, or Tinker, or Daphne… but mostly the boy. Distracted he still spoke to her softly. “Alive and sound is good, though I’d rather it mean more then ‘well enough’. I’ll take what we can get though.”
He noticed they were away from the main body of people, and that was fine by him. He could still scout out the group of the masses for people he knew, and he was gladly with someone he considered a friend anyhow. As the pull came in on his arm, he blinked, his other hand covering her hand with a pat and he leaned in, obviously being requested for a whisper to the ear.
Bent over just enough for the shorter one to whisper to his ear he obliged, eyes peeking around to see who might be watching or not.
