Eeeeeee!!! 
My library has finally purchased the Ian Carmichael dramatizations of the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries!  (As you see, this news is sending my punctuation into full Miss Climpson mode.)
I'm hoping to make time next week to see "Murder Must Advertise" (& then to see "Clouds of Witness" again -- one of my favorites).

Are there books that you find yourself re-reading at this time of year?

Some of mine are:
Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy (Christmas caroling around the village, with mixed success!)
The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper (lots of midwinter and Christmas traditions -- I've read this one out of the series about 10 times as often as the others!)

While wandering through the library in search of my usual copy of Rudyard Kipling's poetry, I came across a YA book called Kipling's Choice by Geert Spillebeen. It is a fictionalized account of the life (and in particular, death in WWI) of Kipling's son John. I was starting in to re-read Busman's Honeymoon (one of the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries by Dorothy Sayers), and found a quote I just love. Peter's mother is writing in her diary about a visit from Harriet Vane (Peter's fiancee):
"Talked Peter till I could almost hear him saying, 'Mother dear, you are having an orgy' (or is it orgie?)"

While I was in Minnesota recently, I devoted some pleasant hours to reading two of the several George Manville Fenn books available at the University of Minnesota. daegaer has introduced him to us as a prolific author of 19th century boys' adventure stories, but his alter ego is now revealed -- as a writer of three- ( Read more... )
