Binoculars were a godsend.
Liam, Rissa, Elle, and Stuart sat on two of the benches near the front of the school, a fair distance away from the football field - but with the binoculars Liam had brought, they could see everything.
"So when is this going to start?" Liam asked.
"Should be any minute now," Rissa said, staring fixedly at the football field.
Elle was wringing her hands. "I really don't think this was a good idea."
"It's a great idea. They deserve it. And it's going to be hilarious."
"Really, it wasn't that big a deal-"
Stuart put his hand on Elle's elbow. "It's important to us, Ellie. You would not like it if anyone upset Rissa or Liam or me, would you? So let us do this for you."
Elle sighed, then gave in. It was done, anyway. They couldn't exactly take it back. "Okay."
Rissa and Liam continued to stare through the binoculars at the exit from the boys' locker room to the football field. "In three, two..."
A scream rang out and Rissa grinned.
Stuart hastily picked up his binoculars and looked through them. Elle grabbed hers as well.
A large group of boys came tearing out of the locker room onto the field, most of them somewhere between dressed and undressed, some more in regular clothes, some more in football uniforms. They were covered in...frogs?
"Is it still on me?! Get it off! Get it OFF!" one of them yelled.
"Okay, that is definitely hilarious," Liam said.
"And well-deserved," Stuart added.
By now, Rissa was cackling as she watched the football players try to deal with the frogs that had mysteriously made their way into their locker room. Liam and Stuart were both grinning, and even Elle cracked a smile. It was honestly kind of funny to see jocks, who prided themselves on being big and brave, brought down by a bunch of frogs. Especially since some of them were kind of mean. And the one who was yelling was one of the worst.
They continued to quietly watch as the coach and his assistants tried to round up the frogs, with a lack of help from the football players, most of whom were still jumping around and yelling.
A whistle blew and they could hear the coach starting to yell at his team.
The football players immediately stopped moving until one of the frogs jumped as high as it could go, right into the mean one's face. He jumped and screamed and fell.
Elle began to laugh. Okay, so Rissa had been right. This was hilarious.
Rissa was still cackling as the coached sent the boys back into the locker room. "That was a good start," she said, wiping away tears of laughter once they were all gone.
"...A start?" Elle asked nervously.
"You thought we were gonna stop there?"
"Please? It was enough, Rissa, it really was."
Stuart nodded. "It was a good revenge."
"Worked for me," Liam added.
Rissa rolled her eyes. "Fine. But if they put one foot outta line, I'm doin' something else to them, and all of you are gonna help." She looked sharply at the boys, who nodded, then at Elle.
Elle sighed. "Fine," she said. "Hey, do you guys want to come over? We can work on our science project."
Rissa perked up. "Ooh, yes, I have the best idea for that."
As Rissa began to rub her hands together in glee, Elle shook her head. She hoped this, at least, didn't end in disaster.
The chances of that, though? Not very likely.
