Something for a person in KakaSaku community, if they want it~
Requested Continuous One-Shot
Part One
Author: Scarlet
It would start, as most interesting parts of life did, with a social gathering. The opening night of Konoha’s first bar since Pein’s invasion to be precise, placed in honor of the recently awoken Tsunade nearby the rebuilt Hospital. Which was close to the Konoha headquarters, including the Hokage’s office, recovered libraries, offices, meeting rooms, and rank lounges, across from which was the shining new Academy.
Yamato was getting free drinks. To say the least.
But this isn’t his story, no matter how much work he did to create our setting. This ‘interesting’ part of someone’s life would include two people, one Haruno Sakura and Hatake Kakashi. With the re-construction of Konoha, voting of Hatake into office, Danzou in the underground commanding Root once more, Sakura taking duties under Shizune at the Hospital, and increased amount of back-to-back missions, the ninja community was long overdue this commemorative break.
Made of wood and accessorized with the rough steel of wreckage, the welcome bar was filled to the brim with anyone still inside the Konoha walls. Tomorrow morning they would go back the same old routine of reconstruction and work, but for that night, they would relax and take the time to speak with people long ignored for favor of the village’s health.
This meant that Ino was laughing and gossiping at a large table containing what of the Rookie Nine were present, that being: Chouji, Naruto, Sakura, Kiba, and an honorary Tenten. The jinchuuriki had resolutely placed himself in a seat facing the double wide doors, greeting everyone he’d ever met like they were old friends, whether or not they were. Sakura gave a slow smile as once again, Naruto interrupted Ino’s story to half-stand on his chair and flag down an entering Shizune. The tired woman gave an obligatory wave, smiling when she saw Sakura, and passed by their table for greetings before asking the barkeep for a bottle of sake.
The pink-haired teenager gave a small giggle, knowing that the temporary Head of Hospital had been brow-beaten ever since Tsunade had awoken, for a cup of the alcoholic beverage. Probably, she thought, they would share it tonight. Out of tune with the table’s active conversation, Sakura contemplated their own drinks and how administrators were looking the other way for the night. Older youths, Genin and Chuunin were living it up across the bar because for this one night, the adults were too exhausted to argue or fight about the age limit. Feeling her red cheeks, Sakura wondered how much she would drink before calling it a night. She was still expected at the hospital the next day after all.
“Kaka-sensei!”
Naruto’s shout was exuberant in volume this time, breaking his teammate’s reverie to stare at the doorway. No doubt, there was self-proclaimed ‘Temporary Hokage’ Kakashi, their famous teacher and team leader. Eyes followed him across the threshold as he folded a dark cloak over his arm, taking his own pace to their table despite the greeting. Sakura however, like Naruto, was used to it and smiled brightly as the man made his way over to their seats.
“Naruto,” he answered, ruffling the sunny boy’s hair before softly patting Sakura’s, “Sakura.” Funny how even after all these years the small familiar affections still felt so pleasant. At least, it was to Sakura, who couldn’t help but chuckle while Naruto ran his own hand through the golden locks, giving Kakashi the stink eye.
“C’mon, Kakashi, I’m almost as tall as you are!” he complained, “Sakura!” he suddenly whined after hearing his teammate laugh a little louder. The older man only gave his own soft chuckle, winking a smile, before waving the barkeep for his own bottle.
“Maybe when you are able to legally drink, I’ll stop doing it.” Naruto’s noise of playful protest was ignored for a final hair tousle and Kakashi retreated to the single empty table in the room. Kiba started up the dialogue once more, this time about what he and Akamaru had recently found in the scrap heaps that were the outskirts of Konoha.
But this time, both Team Kakashi ninja were distracted. Sakura was tipsily considering keeping their quiet leader company to fend off what were obviously mission-related conversations with older ninja; Naruto was openly staring, narrow blue eyes thinking as fast as his half bottle of sake would allow. Coming to a decision, he spoke softly “Hey Sakura.”
“Hmm?” Vacant green eyes focused on blue, taking in his sneaky grin for a minute before catching onto his signal. Kakashi had just placed his cup on the table, and moved to refill it. It took a shorter time for Naruto’s partner in crime to realize his plot.
Rolling her eyes, Sakura’s tone portrayed boredom, telling the group, “Hey, we’re gunna go sit with Kakashi-sensei for a while.” Naruto was up and dragging his chair across the floor before she’d finished her sentence. Grabbing her small bottle and dish, Sakura followed, ignoring the protests of her other blond friend easily.
Naruto came upon his captain just as another uniformed ninja was leaving, luckily enough Sakura thought, surprising Kakashi as Naruto sat the chair backwards and faced Kakashi with such an utter lack of deception that she winced. Kakashi just looked amused.
“Figured you could use some company, sensei!” Sakura raised a single brow as she considered Naruto’s tolerance for alcohol. Was he always this loud, or was she more sensitive with drink?
Green eyes focused on the still Jounin attired man across from her as she made up for her companion’s lack of grace, “To help fend off business for the night.” Her subtlety wasn’t missed, and Kakashi gave her a grateful look, just barely seen through his mask but mostly in his body language, as he gave himself up to Naruto’s attention. The golden boy started up the story about his first successful solo mission that he had started the night at the Rookie Nine table with.
Finding time to refill her saucer, Sakura sipped at her drink despite the obvious heat in her cheeks and noted with tipsy entertainment that Kakashi was resolutely not touching his own.
