Halloween Take Two

Nov 01, 2006 03:54

Ok so we had another little get-together in celebration of Halloween. Despite being much more low-key it was still relatively successful I feel - I believe a fun time was had by all.

I decorated the flat in a sort of haphazard way today, because it was so last minute all the good decorations were gone, so I ended up with a giant banner saying "Happy Halloween" which cost me far more than it should have (but it was the last one available), a witch that stuck to the window, a trick or treating road sign and a witch figurine that makes some godawful cackling noise when you touch her arm. Coupled with about 2 dozen Halloween balloons that I didn't use for the party on Saturday, my pumpkin tealights, some candles and my big Jack O'Lantern. I also found a bit of that cobweb stuff in the bottom of a bag (score!) and used that around the DVD cabinet and the door.

I brought all the cool big Halloween platters and bowls back with me, and adorned them with chocolate cupcakes, mini spring rolls, mini pizzas, mini chicken satays, mini sausages, mini scotch eggs, Doritos and dips. All was eaten (barring some crisps) and a few cupcakes. Oh! And the sweeties I bought on the offchance we had some T.O.T's come round lay untouched also. I managed to see off another bowl of punch too, but have quite a bit of vodka and rum still left, and god knows how many bottles of soft drink - so ready for Halloween 3, which will take place when my lovely friends Tarma and Katie can come round and watch horror movies with me (with popcorn and marshmallows!)

We had an interesting turnout - Ashleigh was the first to arrive, then there was a long wait whilst I pondered if anyone else would join us (I have learnt that this is a party pattern!) Then the buzzer went and Richard had arrived, then a little wait and then Kathy, James, Aesop and a lovely man whose name I can't remember (bad me!) arrived at the same time.

The punch went down well, as did the food. Everyone seemed to talk together really well and I think there was just enough people there - any more and the flat would have got too packed. The guys seemed really interested in talking to me about my beliefs, which was a new (and not unpleasant) experience. I happily tried to explain to them about my Paganism and what I believe and how important Samhain was to me. We had a big deep discussion, which brought me back to a Halloween party I went to about 3 years ago where we all started telling ghost stories early in the morning and then I ended up telling everyone about my poltergeist experiences! But it didn't get to heavy hehe.

I then ended up showing people my portfolio and it was nice to hear some reassurance about my work. I felt all humbled as I always do when people like my art, but Ashleigh seems serious about collaberating on a comic project, which will be so fun! I was almost convinced by everyone to get my guitar out, but I think I need a little more practice before I start busking for the beloved.

I didn't take any pics because, well, I guess I was too busy lol. I wish I had though, because Ashleigh dressed up as a Pirate and looked fantastic, and Richard was in his full evening dress, which I embarrisingly mistook for fancy dress. He assures me that this is his usual attire. I believe him - and am all the more excited for it! He looks as though I imagine Louis from the Vampire Chronicles to look, except perhaps that his hair is not quite long enough. He even has a cane.

Perhaps I will get some photos of him when I go out on Friday night. If I go out on Friday night, which I really want to. If I do, I may wear my corset. In the meantime, I will upload some pics of the flat and my Jack O'Lantern later in another journal entry.

In other news - it's absolutely freezing out there tonight! (But the sky is beautifully clear - check out those stars this season!) And I am midway through making my first set of wool dread falls. They seem to be going well. Soon I will have black dreads with .. some other colour, I haven't decided yet. I just bought some things on eBay - a handmade corset with bats on it and a skirt with tattoo patterns on it. Naughty me.

I have also decided on the other tattoo I want to complement my black bleeding rose that I want done on my hip. I have been inspired by one of the Suicide Girls, who has bats on her shoulder, to design my own tattoo of a small flight of bats arcing their way from my waist (around the back) along my ribs to the area under my right breast. This would represent the parts of my body I love - (my waist, ribs and breast) and also Halloween, my favourite time of year. I need money to do this though - that won't be easy! Especially not if I keep spending my money on eBay and parties!

Oh! And I managed to track down Hocus Pocus on DVD in the end. It was in HMV and I got student discount - so only 30p more than it would have been on Play.com and I get to watch it now! So nuh. Will watch that tomorrow. Or possibly Halloween movie night?

To all you fellow Pagans out there (and Wiccans) Merry Samhain - hope you had a lovely night and here's to a happy and healthy new year!
