Finished "Eragon" today. I think the author of this article was overrating the book though. It's good enough for a light fantasy reader like me but Christopher Paolini is definately not Tolkien. I enjoyed the book; his characters were well developed but I think his writing is woefully amateur is some parts.

Although my fantasy reading is limited, Paolini seemed be borrowing a lot from other authors. Hasn't the dragon riding thing been done before? Tolkien's influence was heavy as well.

It did keep my interest though and I think Harry Potter and Tolkien fans will enjoy it. It's bloodier than Harry Potter though, so I don't recommend it to young readers. The Alagaesia website says that Fox has the rights to a movie planned in 2005 so hold onto your dragons, kids. :-D

1) Murtagh and Eragon are brothers.
-Murtagh's mother disappeared for a time and came back with no explanation. Eragon's mother appeared randomly in Carvahall, gave birth and left. Selena could be Morzan's wife. Suspicious, no?

2) If not the above, then Eragon's father might be an elf.
- This possibility is the least likely however; although it would be interesting if it was so. As a half-breed Eragon might bridge the gap between humans and elves; helping create an alliance that doesn't seem very likely in the book.

3) Murtagh will hook up with Ajihad's daughter.
-Why? She's the only unattached female we've met so far.

4) Ayra will hook up with Eragon.
-This is so obvious that's painful. Looks like Ayra will be robbing the cradle though.

I might have more later but my mind is drawing a blank at the moment.
