Awhile back, I was googling for some tips on creating a good opening chapter and happened to come across
Flogging the Quill, the blog of a freelance editor who takes the first 16 lines of your novel and will tell you if it was compelling enough to turn the page. So I thought it couldn't hurt and submitted mine and sat back to wait.
Today it was my turn.
He was much kinder than I expected. I'd been told once or twice that the beginning of my fantasy novel is a little slow moving, but Ray (the editor) was intrigued enough by my heroine that he turned the page! w00t!!!!!!! I did't get by without critiques, but I agree with nearly everything he pointed out and can't wait to get around to fixing it. Click
here to read the post with my 16 lines.
