story reveal and so on

I'm trying to tally up what fic I've written as gifts; it looks this is my fourth "official" exchange (that isn't a remix).

TV try-outs from yesterday: I watched the pilot episode of Prodigal Son and it wasn't for me. I think I'm just done with procedurals that put their narrative focus on serial killers. Also I kept giggling at the very obvious beats of what was going to happen and my friend who was watching with me was slightly annoyed. Oops I also watched the pilot episode of Perfect Harmony, and hoooboy it was clunky. Cheesy, but not in a fun way.

So then I watched three episodes in a row of The Witcher. It's rated MA for a reason; apparently the setting of faux-medieval Europe requires BOOBS. Also, gory battle scenes, and a gory body transformation. By that point in the evening I was watching by myself on my laptop, and that was a good thing; I was able to open another tab and focus on something else for a few minutes when needed.

I--I like Henry Cavill in this. Much to my surprise. Not that I've disliked him before; I've barely seen his films. (Baby Henry Cavill in The Count of Monte Cristo, and then his role as Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) I think what catches me off-guard is that Geralt the witcher is, well, decent to women so far. And I wasn't sure if that would be the case. Same with his role in TMFU; Solo was written as a womanizer, but he's actually decent to women. Don't get me wrong; it's a minimal standard. But so often mainstream media just loves to double down on the misogyny. Especially when they can try to justify it as "historically accurate".

Anyway, Henry Cavill being quietly disgruntled is apparently ~my aesthetic~ or something. Hee! But also! I LOVE YENNEFER BUT SHE IS ALSO TERRIFYING. And there are so many other women! Important women! People are probably expecting massive monster battles--which the show gives--but then there are also so many female characters doing important things! It's just--pleasantly--not what I expected. Hooray.
