This episode also provides a partial explanation for why Corwin wigged so badly when Nathan's son mentioned "Uncle Harold"; she's suspected at least since 2009 that there was someone out there who knew about the machine that she could not account for, due to Nathan's slip about "eight" people. And if, as it appears, she bailed on government service herself sometime after sending Reese and Stanton out after the maybe-connected-theft in Ordos (I'm just guessing, but it makes sense that they may have tried to prune her off as unnecessary around the same time as Nathan died; Peck's dialogue about her office being shut down for a year but his report still running through it seems to support that) then any person left in that select group is, from her POV, a specific threat to her continued existence as well as a potential leak about the Machine. Finding out that Nathan had a BFF/"brother" figure she didn't know about would have confirmed that for her. And that it's turned out to be the Creator! Must be dredging up a lot of hell for her

You made me feel a bit better about Grace than I did previously. I hate that I feel so ambivalent about a female character being introduced to the show when this is a show that could use more women, but it felt so out of place for me and yet another instance of Plot Device Lady, not to mention I doubt she'll ever show up again. But I like your explanation that Finch is super compartmentalized and so it isn't entirely unreasonable for him to have a secret love that nobody knows about.
Glad I could help. Plot Device Lady is indeed tiresome... but after last week I was entirely ready to find anything positive about Grace that I could. And luckily Grace is still alive and has interesting things to add to Finch's past besides sad faces. (Though she does that as well.)
As for compartmentalization, I think Finch's secrets have secrets. Heh.
If the show producers decide to bring her back, it should be easy to work. :) I hope they do. If I actually write that ridiculous Carter/Reese post-season one fic that I've been plotting, I'm definitely including Grace in at least one section.
I think Corwin is still afraid of the Machine. But anyway--
The hilarious thing about Reese being chased in a yellow taxi-cab while Bowie's song plays is that the video for the song is David Bowie being chased through the streets of New York by Trent Reznor, and at one point, he's in a yellow taxi-cab.
(I also think Corwin and Ingram had a fling together, and I wonder if that's why he got targeted)
I didn't watch Bowie's vid to the song until after the episode, so I didn't think anything of the yellow taxi connection. Heh.
Ingram targeted because of an affair and not because he was supposedly the Machine's creator? Hm.
I do think Corwin is very afraid of the Machine. And would have reason to fear the man who actually made it. I can't wait to see where we're going with her storyline. I pretty much adore early flashback!Corwin, so it's fascinating to see how different she became over time.
