I am crafty.

I, uh... decided to do some sewing. This is fine, although it's been a long time. But my brain decided we needed to sew something for which I didn't actually have a pattern. *sigh* Thanks, brain! But it ended up being really cute! And it was originally a men's shirt, so that's fun.

So I took one men's shirt. Like this one:

But not actually that one, because apparently I forgot to take a picture of the shirt I ended up using for this project. I removed the pocket and washed it.

Then I took a cute jersey-material top that I thought had a great shape:

and I carefully pulled, traced and outlined it on butcher paper until I had something resembling the pattern pieces that made the shirt. Oh, and I made it slightly more snug (by the scientific process of guesstimation) since the men's shirt has a button placket I can use for entry.

Here's a (not very good quality) close-up of the material of the men's shirt:

I cut out my pattern from the butcher paper. Then I turned the men's shirt upside-down to cut out the front piece so that the buttons are turned the 'right' way for a woman's shirt. Somewhere around this point I decided that instead of doing elastic in the front piece at the neckline, I'd do a drawstring to adjust how much I 'ruffle' the shirt.

(The picture on the right is looser than I wear it; it's untied so you can see how the tie actually works.)

Ta-dah! I feel very accomplished. Next time I'll make a dart in the center back neckline to make it curve in a bit more. (The raglan sleeves already have a dart like that in the top, since the tee also had a dart there.)
