musical requests (of the technology kind)

I'll get to the writing stuff for my previous post sometime this week. Right now I'm trying to organize a corner of the living room. I've come to the realization that part of the problem is I still own CD's. Lots of CD's. They haven't just magically disappeared even though I purchase and download most of my new music through sites like emusic.com and amazon.com. I do continue to listen to the CD's at times--my home stereo system is old and doesn't have anywhere to input an mp3 player. So...

1) What do you do with your old CD's? I figure I'll rip them to my computer and maybe burn a backup DVD full of the mp3 files, but what do I then do with the CD's? Trash them? I'm definitely not comfortable trying to resell them if I'm keeping a copy of the music.

2) If you've had any experience with home stereo systems that allow you to play music through an mp3 player, how was it? Any recommendations? Currently I'm thinking I'd like something that allows for mp3 player input and has a radio tuner built in. Probably no need for a tape player or CD player, assuming I download all of my CD's to the computer.

Gah, I feel like I'm such a technology fogey.
