Ah, but Sanibel is what everybody thinks Florida looks like... but, sadly, not all of it does look that way! *S* I wasn't a fan of Florida until I went there. Beautiful beaches, gorgeous wildlife, and lots of pretty shells!
April 24? Thanks! BTW, I'm reading comments backwards and somebody else said it's the same week, but on April 23, and at an hour later than usual. So make sure you check beforehand to see if they're right, or you might miss it.
OOooo, Sanibel! LOoooves Sanibel Island. (-: Was last there 2 years ago mid-March. Where did you stay? We stayed out toward the north end at some cottages way out by the State park--it was lovely.
Mid-March! Exact same time that I went. I usually stay at the south end, away from the people, at Blind Pass (the bridge between Sanibel and Captiva). This time I was a little more in the middle of the island. I try to stay away from the top of the island because of the traffic coming off the causeway, and because I spend a lot of time at Ding Darling, the nature preserve. Did you get some great shells? What place did you stay at? My places have been:
-at Blind Pass: Castaways (cheap and small and good location, but not great rooms, window A/C) -on Captiva: Tween Waters (expensive and hotel-style and good location, nice rooms with central A/C) -middle of Sanibel: West End Paradise (cheap and small and moderate location, cute but small rooms with window A/C, nice owners)
I think you have the directions turned around in reverse in your head. Captiva is to the north of Sanibel and the southeast end of sanibel (the island is an upsidedown comma) is the populated side that you enter onto from the mainland. mererid and We stayed here because I had an interstate coupon book with a coupon for it. It was still a bit pricey, but worth it. It is located at the little blue marker here, on the ocean side of Ding Darling park. Though it was a long drive into town to get food, I think it was a perfect location and cabins are lovely and a little up from the beach but you could see the ocean from our window. We lucked out with the cabin closest to the beach. Not very populated, and yes, great shelling. One of my favoritist things to do in the world!
My family stayed on Sanibel once or twice when I was a kid--I think we stayed at the Holiday inn.
Anyway, in 2006, mererid and I drove up to see Captiva and I think I remember seeing the Castaways--were they the tropical hut looking cabins? I thought that would be a cool

What about a younger Alan Rickman? After all, he's played an angel before. *G*

It'll be interesting to see Shia in the new Indy Jones movie; here's hoping it's a good one.
